I came home to a fun surprise today. Here was how it unfolded...
Honey, I'm home! Whoa, look at all the presents under our Christmas tree!
Are these all for ME!?!
Wait a second, something looks fishy here...
This present is just wrapped loosely with tissue paper, and a gift bag is just taped to the front of it. That's odd. Oh well, I guess the bag was too small but it still looks kinda nice and decorative this way.
This present successfully made it into the gift bag... but what else is going on here? Oh, he used a Christmas-y hand-towel to cover the contents. I suppose that's quite creative.
At least he properly wrapped these other gifts...
What the...?!
Me: "Honey, why did you only wrap the front and top of the boxes?"
He: "I wanted to save wrapping paper in case I get you more presents."
I'm not gonna argue with that logic.

I don't know Tana, I think Dan has done a masterful job here. See, the Christmas spread is like ecology: it is greater than the sum of its parts. What Dan has done is orchestrate a holiday experience of festivity and generosity composed of deliberately decorated and arranged parts interacting to magnify the total effect, just like all the different bird species in a forest! And when you walked in the door you met with the full force of the show and were taken a back by, not just the complex components, but also the beauty of the whole Christmas scene! Now sure, one might say Dan cut a few corners or was even lazy in crafting each part of the presentation. But even here take note of his noble justifications: he is is conserving precious resources and, AND mind you, using foresight to plan for his continued feelings of love and doting and the manny more presents he will assuredly need to wrap for you! I think it not 'amusing' but rather 'masterful creator of an impressive gestalt'.
ReplyDeleteYeah Marshall. You know how tough it can be! Our women want us to produce show and pomp to let them know they are appreciated. Well I tried to create that without going overboard. Tana recognized this and was agreeable nonetheless. Merry Christmas to all!!!
ReplyDeleteYes I agree the intended effect of awe was initially quite effective. However, the rationale behind these hijinks inevitably fell to pieces when there were no additional gifts... Good thing that all I want for Christmas is you :)
